Ok, I want to try this out. How do I know if I have success? What do I look for? The real science way would be to have a control group and a test group, but it's a bit late for that. I have 4 plants in a 5x5 and one in a 2x2 so I guess I could let the 2x2 stew in the light while I do a normal ( wake um up and cut em down) harvest on the 5x5. Comments, ideas? Chris? Thanks!

Yeah, pretty much why I've decided to wait for more "science" on this subject. You make some pretty good points, as I have made the same conclusions from my limited research on the subject.
Hard to see 2 days making a dramatic impact on trichome and terpene development.
I have heard Dr. Bugbee's opinion on the subject regarding synthesis of canabanoids during lights on. The issue I have with the procedure is that it doesn't account for the offgassing of terpenes in day-like conditions. Cooler temps will help preserve those better. If you do 48 hours of light you are evaporating those terpenes away at a higher rate due to the extra heat.
After the 48 hours you chop the plant but the terpenes are diminished. Now the plant that you have chopped down goes into survival mode. It is no longer focusing energy on producing secondary compounds and is only focused on creating primary, life-sustaining compounds.
Then you dry for 10-14 days and evaporate even more terps away inevitably.
So, while I would agree that you may marginally (1% or less) increase canabanoid synthesis, you'd be doing so at the cost of some of your terpenes. Personally, I want my terpenes over a tiny bit more canabanoids (not thc but overall canabanoids).
Obviously this is just my stance. If you have the setup to run them side by side then you would be looking for an increase in resin production and evaluating any loss of terpenes. The only true way to verify anything is to have samples sent off and analyzed for terpene and canabanoid content. Furthermore, you could evaluate a canabanoid breakdown report to see exactly which compounds were being produced. Anything short of that is just hear say. On top of that, the different microenvironments in each tent would rule any findings illegitimate for most people anyway.
