I'm a big fan of this community and the relevant information Mr. Grow it shares. I've got a question for the group as a whole. I recently began a new breeding project with some Alien Tech. seeds I got from Rocket Seeds. I always use Farmer Freeman for my gender testing prior to shifting into the final containers as to not waste time and electricity. I pheno selected 3 excellent females and 2 excellent males from a germinated batch of 20 seeds. I gifted 1 of the females to a fellow breeder. We both use the same tents, lights, soil, nutrients, light cycles and water protocols. His runs, lights on, at about 74 degrees and 30%. My tents, lights on, run at about 82 degrees and 29%. Water is always pH'd and soil pH at around 6.8-6.9. His female Hermed. I just found both my females have hermed. Super bummed. The 2 males show no sign of female tendencies, though I've never really heard of that, and have both produced huge pollen outputs. Can I trust that pollen??!!!??? I was hoping to use it for future projects but those seeds came from the same batch that produced 3 out of 3 hermaphrodites. What say you??
Thanks in advance for needed advice!🤔
Fantastic! Thank you!!
From my understanding, if the male plant is in fact male and not showing any hermaphroditic traits then the pollen is fine. Not sure if you have listened to this podcast episode or not but this one we talk all about breeding and I think you may gain some value from it here:
Yes! Thanks for your feedback. The males are from the same line as the herms. It's a lot of beautiful pollen and if I ever bring some of all these years of work to market, I want it to be soild.
Yep! Genetics come from both sides. I don't see where environmental stressors could have hermed the girls.. I'm pretty sure males won't "flip" the other way and I've got 4tsp of beautiful pollen. I just need to know if anybody out there has had the same thing happen, used their pollen anyway and had good results down the line??!!
Man, excellent question. The seeds from the hermie may possess the same trait for sure but you’re saying are the males from that batch you got are able to be trusted for their pollen to not pass on the hermie trait, if I’m reading correctly
