I read that it is advised to take cuttings for clones from a plant at least 8 weeks old, can anyone tell me why this is and also what would be the likely outcome (consequences😱) of taking clones from a 4 week old plant?
4 clones off a bushy young healthy plant like you describe should not be a problem. If you were looking at taking 10 or more then you might have a problem with the mother surviving but the clones would probably still be good.
Don't have a smart phone to take picture i'm on laptop but if a description helps the potential teen mom is photo blueberry (seedpopped 25.04) with 4 nodes, 1foot tall and plenty bushy and pointy and healthy looking. The main stalk is thick and strong and the dozen "limbs" shooting off from it are fairly thick too.
The plan was to not feed for a few days (save a little water maybe) and spray with clonex couple times before taking cuttings for just 4 clones. Then i read about the 8 week thing and don't know whether to proceed or abandon the bb and select a different, slightly older plant. Now that you have said age is not so important as how healthy and robust the cutting is i think i will just bore on and see what happens. Thanks for help to both you guys.
I guess it would depend on the plant and how many clones you want to take, but 4 weeks sounds a bit young. If you take too much off you may stunt her growth, cause her to hermie from the stress or kill her.
If you can provide a picture of the plant you want to clone and let us know how many clones you plan to take we might be able to give you a better answer.
Ok that confirms it i'm going ahead, thanks again.

I don't clone by the mother's age, I go by the limb I intend to take. If a limb has at least three nodes I clip and clone.
