My hydro store only had #3 perlite with is about a half inch or 1.25 cm. Is this to large?I will go from 16 oz solo cup to 1 gallon then 3 gallon Then finish in 5 gallons.

@mwhite9829 brings up a great point. One positive thing would be that bigger ones would help a bit more with aeration. Not sure how big of an impact it would really be though. Could be marginal.
