Hi.
I'm looking at items to purchase for my first grow. Initially I want to start with two photoperiod plants and if i'm succesfull I want to expand to six. For two plants i have measured and they would fit fine. Model: Green-Qube V: GQ100 Grow tent, it is 1meter x 1meter x 2 meter. My issue is that I will need to get a bigger tent when I want to scale up. However having a small tent for seedlings and another for flower is a smart idea. Please give me feedback on my thought process and your personal experience. For a bigger tent I found model: Green-Qube: GQ300L – 3m x 3m x 2.2m (62 feet). Would you get the smaller one first?
My second question: How do you deal with working out of a tent? I would like to be able to walk inside of my tent, close the door behind me and get to work but thats not possible with a tiny tent. If I choose a smaller option and any time I want to maintain my plants wouldn't the climate inside get stressed when I use 60minutes when lollipopping the plants, filling water etc when the tent walls are down and i'm working on my babies? Third question: I read somewhere that the wattage for all the lights are typically lower than whats written on them. I found Mars Hydro TSL 2000 300w and I'm likely going to buy it. I did some mathcalculations regarding the electricity my plants would need if I were going to have six or five plants. The pot I would be using is 3gallon: I read that 3gallon is good for Sativa strains as they grow bigger then Indica's which would need 5gallon pots. I found out that the wattage I would need for six plants were 624w and 416w for five. If I have two Mars Hydro TSL 2000 300w, would it be best to have five or six plants inside of the bigger tent? On the first option I have less wattage then whats optimal. I read that each plant should get 65wattage each. On the second option I have far more wattage then needed. I used the formula from: https://www.growweedeasy.com/1-gram-per-watt
Sounds like you have a good plan going from a small tent with a few plants and then getting a bigger tent for when you want to grow more plants and/or seedlings in one tent and veg/flower in the other.
The climate in the room outside of your grow tent shouldn't be too far off from ideal. What is the temperature and humidity right now without any equipment running? Then, what is the temperature and humidity when the equipment is running? Once you know that information then you can make adjustments as necessary.
One could argue since sativa's typically grow bigger than they will need a bigger grow pot - so opposite of what you are saying. I personally don't go by genetics to determine pot size. Small plants 3gal, medium plants 5gal, large plants 7gal is general guidance for indoor home growers.
Years ago I feel like it was easier to go by wattage in order to determine how much light you need to cover a grow space - specifically when using HID grow lights. LED grow lights is a different story really. Here in 2020, most growers use PAR output to determine that. You may want to read my LED Buyers Guide. I wrote it to help give an idea of how to approach buying LED grow lights https://www.mrgrowit.com/post/2019/03/05/led-grow-light-buyers-guide-2019-indoor-cannabis-gardening
