You can use a shorter light period for your plants from the seedling stage, if desired. I start some of my grows straight into 12/12...if you have the ability to do so, give it a shot 😎
You never have to flip them to flower. Unless she gets so big she out grows the room/tent you have it in. It can stay that way for as long as you like. The pistols on the plant are just her letting you know she's ready for flower if you are.
