Most people run with both the Veg and Bloom light on together all the time, no fuss no muss.
The only reason I have heard to only run the Veg light during Veg is to save on electricity costs. The Bloom light in Veg either does nothing or some say it helps increase stem strength, so no reason not to keep them all on except the electric bill.
In Bloom you MUST keep both lights on, no options here.
All that said, I am actually just running my Veg tent with just a Veg light ... because the Bloom light stopped working. I figure I could use it for the Veg tent instead of throwing it out. I've been vegging with that light for about 6 months now with no problems. Still want to replace it but running on a budget.
Hi @Tom , most lights come with some recommendations on how high to hang them above the canopy at various stages of growth. You should check with the manufacture about that.
I did find this PAR value map, so according to @SinnerSpread and this map, you probably want to hang the light 20-24 inches or so above the canopy.
@Cap Stone also is it best to just run the blue light for flowering and red for veg? Or both for flowering and just red for veg, as iv seen mixed things in this, currently running just blue at the moment
I'm not a scientist, so I'll give you the laymen's explanation..
Your light creates a spectrum (rays of light beaming down on the plants). This spectrum can be measured. That measurement is called "par" or "ppfd".
Cannabis plants thrive at certain par measurements.
200-400 par for seedlings, clones, preveg.
400-600 par for vegetative stage
600-900 par for flower
This grow that Im on right now, I had the par set to 580 during veg, seemed like 600 was a bit to much ..
Chris (aka Mr. Grow it) has a couple vids on youtube regarding par, ppfd..micromoles, jules ..its boring as all hell but they are there if you feel the need to learn more.
@Tom Depends on your pot size, also your setup. Being a new grower though, I'd prob just use the finger test to determining when to water.
1) Shove a finger into the soil, knuckle deep.
2) If its dry its time to water.
3) After doing this a few times, you will be able to set a watering schedule.
After a little bit of growing exp, you will be able to tell by just looking at your plant whether it needs water, or maybe you have watered to much. It just takes a little trial n error sometimes to dial her in.
Here's a video which may help understand it a bit better:

All good man, happy to help.

580 par please explain dude as I’m new to this set up and growing?
580 par .. seems like plants get a lil testy when I go over this mark in veg.
