First time grower. Gonna take a stab at this grow journal thing. I'm definitely going to be asking some questions along the way!
I noticed yesterday the tops of the leaves appear to be a lighter green than the other parts of the leaves. I've read this could be from overwatering, light burn (although I haven't noticed these leaves "praying" at all) or possible nutrient lockout (I've fed zero nutrients, only letting them feed off the soil).
There is a chance I've overwatered. I assume that will just happen being a new grower. For about 2 days the light was at 30%, but turned back down to 25% yesterday. This is my first grow, so naturally I'm worried about every little thing that appears to be not normal.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I tried to take some really good close-ups. Let me know if I should take more photos.
I used an auto flower which started her flower automatically at 4
Your plants are looking great! Here are a couple ideas. 1) Next time try starting in that pot you transplanted to. You can actually skip the solo cup stage and start in the pot you finish in, thats what I do. 2) make sure to spin the pots throughout the run to help keep them from growing towards the light and keep them growing fairly straight as opposed to leaning to bad.
We've made it to Week 3 or Flower!
Buds are developing nicely. This being a 100% Sativa, their vertical growth hasn't been as fast and drastic as I was expecting. I think this is mainly due to the LST that was done during Veg stage. Kinda feel like I need to defoliate a lot more than I have.
Anyway, just wanted to drop a little update. Super excited with how Flowering is coming along.
Peace
Well, the time has come. Flipping these girls to flower in about 15 minutes.
So excited to see what comes next. This being a Sativa, I have some concerns about height in relation to how high my light can go. I'm really hoping the LST pays off and keeps these girls from getting too tall. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I'll keep the post updated as this moves along. Send those good flower stage vibes this way!
When to flower is more of personal choice, not really a set schedule. I've vegged 5 weeks and some times 13-15 weeks depending on the size I'm planning on finishing and the condition of the plant before flipping. Your girls look great, and you can flower anytime. Glad your grow has been successful and hope you finish happy and proud of your grow. Harvesting is a proud moment knowing through trials and error you did it, growing is easy until it isn't and isn't can hit fast. I'm proud of every plant I grow and all growers should be. Nice job 👍
Start of Durban Poison Week 6 of Veg is here!
This has been a very educational first grow. (As it should be, right?) Still so, so much more to learn, and so much more I haven't seen yet. Anyway....
Here they are, in all their veg glory.
The one on the right, DP2 (Should I give them real names?) has been the winner so far. I thought this one was going to be trouble because of how it began growing. Nope - she's a star. I feel like I did a good job with training this one. She's got a little bit of nute burn but it has not progressed any over the last few days.
Now, DP1 here keeps me up at night lol. We really thought this one was gonna be the all-star but, nah. I think I might have stunted her a bit with transplanting and topping mistakes. Probably some overwatering in there too. No matter what I do, she doesn't go very long without beginning to look kinda sad.
Judging by the canopy size, I think I'm probably a week away from flipping to flower. I'm not counting on DP1 to yield more than DP2, but maybe she'll surprise me.
Any feedback is appreciated. Happy growing!
Hey brotha, I responded to a post you made right before your grow about the height distances for the TSW2000, and was hoping to spare you the pain and suffering my girls have experienced. Here is a doc that Mars Hydro sent me for grow distance for the various stages of the plants life. I highly recommend not dropping below 18" in flower when you have the brightness turned up to 100%.
Hey there folks, hoping to get some help here. The plants are growing more and more each day. I do have a few concerns/questions I'm hoping you guys can help with. I'll drop some pics below.
A lot going on here with this one. Should I begin some form of LST or topping?
This one here, I'm seeing a few yellow tips. Since these plants haven't been fed any nutes, could this be a sign of over/under-watering?
I've read when leaves on the bottom have yellow tips, that's a sign of nitrogen deficiency - could that be what's going on here?
As always, thank you for any feedback!
Looking good so far. I am about two weeks behind you on my first grow. Ordered Mr. Grow it Book on audible yesterday.
Hey, y'all! Back with an update after transplanting 4 days ago.
Gave the girls some water today, pots were a bit light and they were looking a little thirsty. I remembered to check pH this time. Yay! No nutrients, cal mag or anything extra, I'm just letting them feed off the Happy Frog until later into veg or early flowering.
Here's what the runoff is looking like after today's watering:
- Distilled water
- PPM range: 1102-1287 (4 day's ago: 1378-1761)
- pH: 5.5
I kinda feel like growth has slowed a bit, but I assume that's how it is until they've built more root structure to match the bigger pot.
I did experiment with topping a few spots. Seeing new growth there. Probably shouldn't have topped the day of transplant. Not sure. It's a learning experience, right?
I'll drop some pictures below, feel free to leave some feedback. Thanks for tuning in!
I'm following on your plant journey! Hoping these ladies bring you a lot of joy. I'm just waiting for my equipment to arrive to start my first grow.
Wow. So these plants grow pretty quickly once they've gotten started. Today was transplant day. Being the first transplant I'm really hoping we didn't mess them up.
Things to do better next transplant:
- Make sure each pot has the same amount of base soil. Basic, right?
- Forget mycorrhizae has been added before transplanting the first plant, not after.
- Do better when burying to fix stretch. Didn't do so bad with one, totally blew it with the other.
- Check the water's pH before feeding.
But, I now see why you don't have to feed at first with soil. Runoff PPM for both ranged from 1300-1700. A lot of food for them to munch on for a while!
I'll drop some pics below to check out.
Peace
Looks good. They are still babies my friend, you be ok. Not sure how you doing at this stage, but personally I use a spray bottle to water, and try to spray little away from mainstream to get to roots to spread, and got more control on how much you water. Looks like they may have stretched some, but thats fixable on your transplant. Im no pro, but I've had this leaf curl myself. Too much water i think, what else could it be. Well good luck and welcome. And I highly recommend Mr.Growits book.
Hi, all!
So, the little girls have grown some more, about two inches in height since I first posted this. They both look healthy, as far as I can tell.
One of the girls is giving me a bit of concern - looks like the leaves have an ever so slight curl to the bottom along the edges. My first time growing so I might just be overreacting from how the leaves develop. It's also quite possible that I overwatered and it's just a sign of stress.
I'll post some pictures for feedback. I'm sorry for these pics, I tried to catch what I think is curling but I failed with each photo. Please tell me what you think.
- 12 days since sprouting
- Happy Frog soil
- Distilled water still (run off PPM from last watering was 208)
Thanks!
Good luck. First time grower here also. I am going to be popping my first seeds in a couple of days. I have the same light as you and will be working in a 2 x 4 x 7 tent in fox farm ocean forest. I have been watching Mr. Grow it videos on youtube for a few weeks. He does a great job explaining. I am sure I will be asking several questions here as well as getting his book.
Looks good! New growth will start as yellow and then quickly turn to green.
