Hello everyone! Here is the deal. My wife and I have been self medicating for years, and finally decided to grow our own. We just planted our first 3 seeds. 1 is a Purple Bud Auto (White Label Seeds), 1 is a Big Yield Auto (Phoenix Seeds), and 1 is a Candy Kush Auto (Auto Seeds).
We popped them directly into the soil using solo cups, after we saturated the soil with RO water with a little bit of Dr. Root, and SLF-100.
We placed the solo cups in a temp controlled propagation dome set at 78 degrees, and we are hoping to keep the humidity above 80% by adding a little extra water to the bottom tray of the dome.
We are using a 2x4x7ft Gorilla Grow Lite tent, a Chiled Growcraft x3 (330 watt), and a 4 inch AC Infinity inline duct fan, with various other small fans for maximum air circulation.
Feel free to leave any comments or tips. I will keep updating this post when anything interesting happens.
Take care all!
Hey, I just read through this thread. Nice first grow! I would be interested to hear how you make your canna-oil. I have been making it for a few years using coconut oil and have gotten down a pretty reliable method. I always use trim (sugar leaves, some larf etc.) and can get pretty reliable potency. What is your method?
How did the big yield go? Did it develop well?
Awesome first-grow journey, I really enjoyed checking it out.
Hello,
I still cant upload pictures so this the is gonna be the last post on this thread and will be a written post only.
The last plant from my first run has been harvested and dried. It was in the drying tent from 12/30/2020 until today (10 days for those who don't wanna do the math).
I used an inkbird temp and humidity controller to keep my temperature in the tent at a constant 63°-65°, and the humidity at 55%-59%. It worked beautifully allowing me a nice slow 10 day dry.
My final weight of flower after drying was 130 grams. 30 grams was fluffy bud that we turned into 2 cups canna-oil using coconut oil. This batch of canna oil is fairly weak, next batch i make will have 60 grams of flower in it.
We have made 2 batches of gummies out of the canna oil so far. The first batch used 1/4 cup of oil, and they were really weak. The second batch used 1/2 cup and they were better but still not quite strong enough. I gave the first batch to my mom and dad, and my sister and her hubby, because they all have lower tolerances and they liked the lower potency. My wife and I kept the other batch.
I already have a couple seeds sprouted for my next run, and I have 2 more seeds germinating using the paper towel method. The seeds that are still germinating have been in the moist paper towel for 2 and a half days, hopefully the taproot pops out soon.
I'm gonna start a new thread detailing my 2nd grow soon. I also wanted to thank everyone who has taken the time to read my posts and comment on them.
Thank you for being part of this learning experience with me, your comments and help along the way are very appreciated!
Take care folks! We will talk to you again soon!
All the love,
DvntGarden
I don't know what is going on but I cant upload pictures. So this is just a quick written update. My last plant has amber trichomes starting to pop up now. I think i may be harvesting in the next few days. I will try again to add some photos when I give her the chop.
Take care friends!
Just a quick picture update. Things are going well. She is steadily putting on trichs. Nothing particularly interesting. Lol
So my best friend, who I have known for 20 years now, has been a licensed caregiver in Michigan for like 15 years. I have referenced him in past posts on this forum. He was the guy I bought my smoke from because it was always Tip Top, and he is the reason I chose Nectar For The Gods as my nutrient line. He has also been holding my hand through this whole grow, answering all of my MANY questions. If you think I post a lot here, you should feel sorry for him cuz I am always bothering him.
Anyways he has found financial backing to start up a large scale fully legit and licensed grow operation to supply recreational, and medical marijuana, and he has offered me a job. Construction of the facility is under way already, and it should be operational by early April or May. I am really excited for this opportunity, it almost seems too good to be true!
Take care folks!
I have my humidifier to come on at 45%, I think 40% to 60% is ideal. My AC Infinity is off also, Just a small amount but not that much. But every humidity reader I have has a small variation to others. On my last grow I had a blue monster stop drinking, tried a few things but it was ready to harvest before I really figured anything out. I remember something Mr Growit said in one of his videos (maybe) about that issue but don't remember what it was.
Keep us posted if you figure it out, it would be good to bank the information.
Hello Friends!
We are at the end of week 5 of flower, and this past week has been a little nerve-wracking. Earlier in the week this lady stopped taking up her nutrient solution at the rate she normally takes it up. I usually feed her every other day, but she went 4 days before drying out. I thought this was very strange so I did a slurry test and her PPM was at 1100, pH was at 6.8. So PPM were very high, and pH was just a touch higher than I wanted to see. So I gave her a herc flush and called my friend up who is a #NectarFam grower and got his input. After explaining what was going on, and how much I am feeding her we came to the conclusion that I have been going over board with the amount of herculean harvest I regularly give her. Once she dried out after the herc flush I did another slurry test and her PPM were back down to 300ish, and I gave her her feed last night. The pictures above were taken last night. I am hoping the discoloration of the leaves are due to the high PPM that occurred last week, and not a sign of another lingering issue. I am closing in on the final weeks of this plants life and hoping everything goes smoothly from here on out. 🤞
Questions, comments? Come at me bro! Lol
Take care friends!
Hello,
Here she is folks, the Purple Bud Auto by White Label. She came out of the drying tent last night, and into jars for curing. She took 1 week to dry in my 2x4 tent with temps from 62°-66° Fahrenheit, and RH between 48%-55% (maintained by an evaporative 3 gallon capacity humidifier), with an inline fan running about half strength to keep air moving through the tent, and a cheap oscilating fan in the bottom of the tent to keep air circulating inside while being careful not to have any direct wind on the buds.
Today the humidity in the jars is around 65%, so that is pretty good. I'll have to burp this lady and lay my bud out on the table for a bit twice a day until my RH is down around 62%.
She produced 47 grams of dried weight. Not too bad for a plant who had a rootball that was only the size of my fist. 😆
Take care friends!
I was busy didn't get to check in on you for a few days. Looks like everything is going great. Great job and looking forward to your next grow.
Hello friends!
Here is the latest update. The purple bud here has a day or 2 left before she is dry enough to start curing. They have been hanging in my 2x4 tent with the AC infinity exhaust fan running mid strength, a 3 gallon evaporative humidifier keeping my rh at 50-55%, and a low power oscillating fan in the bottom to keep air circulating around, temp in the tent has been 60-68 degrees.
When I trimmed her up I accidentally chopped off a few small pieces of bud. Instead of wasting the pieces I decided to toss them in the coffee table and quick dry them for a little taste test. After 3 or 4 days they were feeling dry on the outside and my wife and I sparked them up in one of our pipes (standard spoon pipe, nothing fancy). We were both surprised at the flavor and smoothness of it, even with a quick dry and no cure it was really pleasant! It was a creeper for sure and a solid high! Not too strong, no couch lock, a nice uplifting giddy high and no anxiety. It was amazing how much better it turned out in such a short time compared to the candy kush.
As far as the candy kush goes she has mellowed out quite a bit. We smoked some yesterday and were happy with the effects that the cure is having on her. She still smells strange, like herbal tea, with none of the usual darkness you would expect. Its not a bad smell, it just doesn't smell like weed. I have had strains in the past that have a tea smell to them, but it is usually accompanied by the cannabis dank. All in all, the candy is gonna be ok, not great, but better than brick!
And here is Bertha! Tomorrow will be the beginning of week 4 of flower and she is loving life! She has 23 buds on her. The smallest are about 4 inches long, and there are probably 8 or so in that category. The rest are 6+ inches with a handful that are 8+. Bertha has been a bad bitch! She has taken all the abuse I have dished out and persevered through it all. I love you Bertha, thank you for being a bad ass!
Take care friends,
DvntGarden
P.S. As always questions and comments are always welcome and appreciated.
Have read your every update. What a fantastic first run. I'm still nervous on jumping into it myself. I always feel another month of learning is needed. Wish I had the balls to just jump into it like you did. I love reading your different questions and ofc, Mr Grow It responds to EVERY single post. For EVERYONE. No one does that. This guy is a fucking champ.
Cant wait to see this finish out and how you go about it next time around! Keep up the great work
The purple got the chop tonight. Sorry about the picture of the bud after the trim job (also thats only half the bud that came off of that plant), my camera work was pretty shoddy. So she is now hanging in the dry tent. I'll update with better pictures after she is done drying. Been dealing with low pH on her for the last month or so (5.7ish) never could get it up into the range I wanted it, I think that maybe it was part of the reason that the trichs were not developing the amber color I have been waiting for. But, all the trichs were milky, and cloudy so she was ready.
Now Bertha is all alone in the grow tent. She is doing well, still steadily growing and still stacking on flowers.
My first grow has been jacked up, up to this point. The first plant to come down was puny, and I fucked up the drying process which led to some harsh tasting smoke (but at least it provides a nice high). The second one to come down (described above), was slightly less puny. But Bertha here is doing far, far, better than the other 2.
Thats all I have got for now. Questions and constructive criticism are always welcome!
Take care friends,
DvntGarden
Awesome!! With the purple bud being so close to harvest, I wouldn't worry much about deficiencies. It looks like you could harvest her any day now eh? How many days has she been in flowering? I just read up on it on seedfinder: https://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/Purple_Bud_Automatic_/White_Label/ Bertha is the Big Yield Auto right? Is that the one that flowered super late? If I remember correctly, you changed light cycles. So is she on 12/12 or did she finally start to flower under 18/6? She's coming along great! Good books there! One thing to mention (and I can't word it without sounding bad lol), is that Jeff is extremely biased towards organic growing. In Teaming With Microbes, he mentions synthetic fertilizer kills microbes. He words it as if the entire microbe population is killed off with one feeding of synthetic nutrients - which isn't true. Studies show otherwise. But there is lots of great information in those books; just don't read it and assume 100% is fact and there is no arguing otherwise lol. But that's the same for all books right? Even mine. But much respect to him for all he has done over the years.
I have come to realize something. My pride kind of wishes more people read these posts I make, but mostly I am glad that I don't have a fan base relying on me to keep them informed of my grow because I am shit at keeping notes and keeping a journal. I know Mr. GrowIt checks out my posts, and there are a few others who have seen them as well. To all of you taking the time to read any of my sporadic posts, thank you! And to those who have commented and left advice, even more thanks to you!
I have been dealing with a pH issue the last week or so with the purple bud, pictured above. I noticed that she is getting crispy in her leaves, and they were curling up, tacoing, and the tips were going yellow. Her slurry test came out at 5.75 pH, and 578 ppm. Low pH, and slightly high ppms. So today I gave her a Herculean Harvest flush pHed to 7.0. I hope this gets the pH under control and she will start eating the leftover food in her soil which is making up the slightly high ppms. Her trichome development seems to be at a stand still as well. Last monday they were almost all cloudy/milky, and I was sure I would start noticing amber popping up soon. Well the trichs seem to be the exact same as they were last week. Maybe it is still packing on trichs as well, It seems like we still have a fair number of clear trichs yet. As far as being able to tell a difference in the frostiness of the buds, I can't say there is a noticeable difference. She is gonna be ready for harvest soon. And I am just stunned at how beautiful she is! The colors are just amazing to me. I'm hoping that her leaves will keep turning and get even more color in there.
And here is Bertha. She is finally all trimmed up to where we want her. She has 27 tops. And they are all packing on bud sites. If I hadn't cut out the rest that was never gonna make it to the canopy she would have at least 50. Since she was so slow to develop I topped her in quite a few spots. I'm feeding her mid flower+extra nutes in a gallon of water everyday or 2. She is a hungry bitch, and she is just gonna get hungrier. I am soo stoked to see how she turns out. We will get 3 times as much bud off her as we will off the other 2 ladies.
Anyway, that's it for my update. Thanks for reading. Feel free to comment or ask questions! I always appreciate any input.
Take care friends,
DvntGarden
P.S. Almost forgot
This should be mandatory reading for anyone growing organically. I'm halfway through with teaming with microbes and it is actually fascinating, and entertaining. I'm learning alot from it so far.
Tight squeeze eh? I like the extra height with the Gorilla tents. I'm currently running an X3 on half my tent too. That thing is so damn powerful I got light burn from it lol. Had to dim and increase the light distance. Fingers crossed that the Big Yield "auto" starts to flower for ya!
Spent 5 hours yesterday setting up the new 5x5 gorilla grow tent. And this thing is really nice, but it was a nightmare setting it up with the wife because it is only about 1/4 inch shorter than the ceiling so we had to get creative in how we put it together. Its is gonna be used for veg, and flower from here on out. The old 2x4 tent is gonna be set up for drying as needed. Right now I have my candy kush in the drying tent, letting it sit in darkness for 36 hours, she will get the chop tomorrow morning and start drying out.
My grow room is pretty damn crowded with both tents set up but I really like having the extra space of the 5x5 compared to the 2x4. I feel it will give me more control with less restrictions. I will add an update tomorrow after I harvest the candy kush.
Take care friends,
DvntGarden
Edit*
P.S. I changed my light schedule to 12 hours on and 12 hours off to try to get that big yield to flower. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will see some buds appearing🤞
Hello Friends,
Just wanted to provide an update on the grow. Everything is running along nicely! According to my slurry tests my soil pH & PPM's have been right in the range I have been shooting for (6-7 pH and 300-400 PPM).
I'm gonna post a bunch of pictures on this update. Don't judge my ladies too harshly on their small size, its not their fault their caretaker is a noob. Each one is beautiful in her own way!
This little lady is Shaniqua. She is my Purple Bud Auto. The color of her buds are drop dead gorgeous, and she has a really deep earthy smell, slightly fruity and sweet, with a hint of skunk. Her trichs are almost entirely milky now, her time til harvest is not long I'm thinking a week more, 2 weeks tops.
This little lady is Tootsie, my Candy Kush Auto. She is an absolute midget at 7 1/2 inches tall. Her buds are pretty standard as far as color goes, and she too has an earthy smell, less fruity and sweet than the purp, but more skunk. Her trichs are completely milky with a few turning amber now. I have been flushing her for the last 2 days because I have a new 5x5ft grow tent coming on Monday. I'm planning to harvest her when I set up the new tent, and I'm gonna use my 2x4ft tent for drying from then on.
And this is Bertha, what I thought was a Big Yield Autoflower. Turns out she is a photo period, so I have no idea what the actual strain is. If it turns out really good I guess I'll have to give it its own name! This lady is very hungry! I can give her a gallon of water and nutes every day (compared to the half gallon I give my other 2 plants every 2 -3 days) although I sometimes make her wait an extra day to try to push those roots to grow a little more. When I set up my new tent I plan to flip the lights to 12/12 and get her flowering. She has a crazy amount of bud sites, I cant wait to see how she looks when she flowers. I predict that she is going to easily triple the amount of bub I get compared to the other 2 plants combined. We shall see!
I really hope this post isn't overly long, and I sincerely hope whoever reads it enjoys it!
Take care friends 🤘,
DvntGarden
Quick question. I just got my order of seeds for my next grow. Is it cool to post a picture of it and plug the vendor. They are a company out of Michigan and I would like to give them a little love.
Thanks,
DvntGarden
Hello everyone,
Its been awhile since I have posted but now I'm concerned. This is my big yield auto. She has been having issues with the "newer" growth, in that it hasn't been developing. She is getting taller and bushier, but the tops and tips haven't developed in more than 2 weeks. She also has responded within hours of being defoliated and tied down, I'm having to defoliate and tie her down every week cuz she is just so damn thick. All of her older growth is nice and green and healthy looking. I have been giving her a feed, feed, tea, feed, feed, tea every other day or 2. I have slurry tested her twice in the last 2 weeks and the tests come back right in the proper range I'm looking for, 400 ppm and in the 6-7 pH range. I don't know whats going on with her or maybe I'm being too impatient. My other 2 plants are in full flower and they look good although still small.
Any advice on my big yield would be appreciated!
Take care friends,
Lowell Kimble
P.s. I'm looking for a photo period plant with a good combination of THC and CBD. I have found seeds for Jorges Diamond strain by Jorge Cervantes and Dutch Passion so far. If anyone has another strain that meets that criteria I am very interested in hearing about it. Thank you!
