I have been hearing about a lot of people thinking flowering starts the moment you go to 12 and 12 cycle. I've grown outside for years and it starts when you see pistils. Why would someone believe that the transition time is flowering? time. If I don't see pistils then my plants are not in flower yet.

Many flip to a flowering light cycle when the plant is pre-flowering. So that may be why they consider the first day on the new light cycle as day 1 of flowering.
