I have a window unit pushed up against the intake vent of my grow tent. Should I be using duct tape to make a tight seal of the A/C against the grow tent? I dont think the thermostat on the A/C is getting a proper reading of the temperature inside the tent because of ambient air from the space outside the tent (which fluctuates up to 40 degrees in a day here).

You can try that if you think it'll help dial in your grow tent's conditions. Typically when using a window AC then a grow tent in the room, you cool the air outside of the grow tent and then the cool air will passively come in through the intake vent.
