Best LED Grow Lights 2023 | 4x4 Coverage Area

Updated: Jan 8, 2023

LED grow light technology has been rapidly advancing over the past several years. A LED grow light that is deemed the best today is often outdone by a competitor within the matter of months. With hundreds of grow lights on the market today, it can be challenging to keep up with. I’ve been studying horticulture lighting and growing with LED grow lights for over 7 years now and I’m often asked what are the best LED grow lights on the market today.

In this article, I will reveal my picks for the Best LED Grow Lights in 2023. This list will include LED grow lights that have a flowering coverage area of 4’x4’ and are best for a full-cycle grow (from seedling through flowering). These are complete fixtures only. This list does not include DIY grow lights or lights that require significant assembly. The grow lights are listed in no specific order. For a LED grow light to make this list, I factor in: PAR output, efficiency, spectrum, light spread, diodes, drivers, and warranty. I've excluded grow lights that are over $800 because in my opinion it's simply not worth it to spend more than that to cover a 4'x4' area. Since prices are always changing, click either the Amazon link, Happy Hydro link, or LED Grow Lights Depot link under each light for the most up-to-date price.

Do you need a better understanding of PAR output, spectrum, efficacy, energy consumption, or light spread? Check out this complete Buyer’s Guide for LED Grow Lights

ChilLED Growcraft X4 600W LED Grow Light (DIY)

DIY! I mentioned in the beginning of this article that I wasn't going to include any DIY grow lights or grow lights that require significant assembly. Although, this is an incredible grow light for a 4'x4' grow space and comes in just under $800 so I figured I'd include it. The ChilLED Growcraft X4 may be the smallest model in this line but is still powerful in intensity and output. Using 3rd Gen 2020 Samsung diodes and the Growcraft Yield Max Spectrum, this beast puts out 1575 µmol/s and has a PPFD of 880 μmol/s/m². This fixture also reduces your total heat load, drawing only 600w with a remote power driver location.

The X4 600w model is dimmable from five to 100 percent range. The ChilLED Growcraft characterizes this LED as its best price model out of the three in this product line for its standard 4' by 4' grow space or a 5' by 5' grow space. The ChilLED Growcraft X4 600W has a rugged, easy-to-install design and spread for excellent light dispersion.

Which LED grow light do you think is the best on this list? Do you think any other LED grow lights (with a 4’x4’ flowering coverage area) should have made this list? I’d also love to hear from growers using these LED grow lights. What do you like/dislike about these LED grow lights?

One ROI E680 would be good for a 4x4 or 5x5 grow tent.
