Hey Mr. Grow It,
Let me first start off by saying that I just finished your book and it has created a strong foundation as a jumping off point for my first grow. I'll be referencing it often and I'll be sure to leave an Amazon review.
I have a few beginner questions.
I'm looking into the Cloudline T6 for my tent. It's my understanding that the fan will adjust its speed and in some cases even turn off to help maintain a desired temp and Humidity. Would the variable van speeds cause problems in the amount of air being replenished into the tent? Doesn't the fan need to replenish the tent with new air every few minutes and if it turns off wouldn't that be an issue?
My second question is I was looking into the Lasko 5790 Oscillating Ceramic Tower Heater & TaoTronics Humidifier listed on your equipment page. Will these LEDs from these appliances causes any issues during the dark period of flower?
I'm super happy to hear that my book has created a strong foundation as a jumping off point for your first grow! My main goal when writing the book was to create an easy-to-follow guide for beginners with general guidance that they can reference throughout their first few grows. Thank you in advance for leaving an Amazon review. That significantly helps with book ranking on Amazon and I truly appreciate it. Great question about the inline fan being automated and turning off at times. The text in the book that mentions the air should be changed every few minutes is general guidance for beginners. The more advanced answer is that the plant needs CO2 at all times in order to do the photosynthesis process. When the plant is a small seedling in a large grow tent for example, the air won't need to be changed as often as say 4 large plants growing wall-to-wall in that same size grow tent. So changing the air every 1-5 minutes is a general rule-of-thumb. I've been using the Cloudline fan with a controller for I believe 2 years now and it doesn't actually turn off for extended periods of time. Not sure if you've started growing yet, but if you haven't, you'll be surprised by how much your grow space can heat up when grow lights are on. Also, when plants transpire, humidity can increase significantly. In my case, when the lights are on, the inline fan will kick on at intervals to exhaust the heat since the temperature high setpoint is reached; when the lights are off, humidity increases and the inline fan will kick on at intervals to exhaust the humidity since the humidity high setpoint is reached. Another good question about the status lights on the equipment. The short answer is, yes cover them. The TaoTronics humidifier does have a sleep button that you press a few times to turn the led light and front panel lighting off. The heater status light can easily be covered with tape. Let me know if you have any other questions.
