I had notes on this from when I researched it but can't find them. Basically the volume would need to be so loud that's it's unbearable. Here's a video with a bit more info:
Mythbusters did an episode on this, and I believe they said heavy metal music showed the best results lol. I think the sound waves through the air hit the plant and subsequently strengthen stems and what-not. I figure my fan does the same thing so I dont use music. I will however talk to them when I'm in there and I believe mythbusters said that was about as effective as the music. Hope this helps. Good growing.
