Hey all, new grower here, just CBD of all things even. I have actually never have tried to grow anything, let alone CBD. I have minimally invested(for me), with a mars hydro 24x24x55, which will probably grow 1 plant at a time for me, which should be more than enough for now. I am a big DIY'er and an even bigger techie/automation/engineering guy. I will be running my first one manually, but from there (after I get my notes, and stuff dialed in) I will be going nearly fully automated. I have already been tinkering with some cheap arduino sensors to get a handle on this. Anyways, I don't really have any questions as of right now, but I am SURE I will. More of just an introduction post. Just planted some seeds today!
I don't know if equipement and whatnot is a thing here, but here is what I have, and what I am proposing.
Setup:

(light with baffles, start out on 1, then go to 2, and then finally 3)
First quick "toy" an all in one, soil moisture, temp and humidity, to wifi, to my automation system.

Sneek peek of the automated setup.

Waiting .... the hard part. Nicely done!
WELL, first grow complete.
Chopped down and hug up the plant 7 days ago. Today I trimmed and put away.
Netted 2oz, split that into 1oz per mason jar
And now we wait. Thanks all for all your help thus far.
Hey dude, I just read through this whole thread. Sorry about the males! I am also an engineer DIYer and am also a home brewer! I started growing a year ago and also employed a ton of fun automation tactics. We should talk!
Just another update. I think we are getting close to harvest, so I started flushing, and on Monday will probably start the dark cycle. Let me know if I am off base.

Hey all still around...
My parents plant sky rocketed this summer..
Thats an 8ft fence. I was so excited, naturally the season here caused the plant to flip, and I almost started to cry...
So I am 0-2.
My plant I started back up in this thread though got flipped.
And I am finally happy to say I got a girl!
So we are back on track.
cheers.
I have to wonder if I caused this plant to become male. Its a moot point now since its done and gone, but this plant was a plant I brought back from near death.
New one topped and added to the main tent in its place.
Bummer! You trained that plant really well too. Would have been a beautiful female.
You did a great job! Sucks your first one was a male, but I'm sure you learned a lot. Keep doing what you where doing!
Good luck with your next one.
Well back home now and its a no doubter...
I do have to say though I am kind of proud at how the techniques and whatnot turned out and I am super happy despite it being a male how even the canopy, and trimming turned out.
I think I would have got a nice harvest! Anyways I started this little one from a seed a few weeks back and will be ready to try again right away!
Thanks to everyone for all the help.
That's definitely a male plant 😔
I hate to say this, but those look like male pollen sacks. Don't take my word for it yet, I could be wrong. Let's see what others think first.
Too early to tell. Pistils are like white hairs and I don't see anything like that in the pictures.
In your close up picture, near the top of the plant where it is a touch blurry, there appear to be two pod like structures in the node. Can you get a clear picture of that section?
Too early to tell if female?
Other thank that, really cool seeing the plant mature.
This weekend took the scissors to her, and added the scrog net to even out the canopy and get more light to everything.
I think it turned out well and nice and even.
Today marks the second week of flower, and have done nothing but watered with cal-mag about once every 5 days(1 gallon per time).
Also stopped by my parents this weekend and checked on their plants, they look healthy.
Just wanted to say I was surprised with the growth after 1 12/12 cycle.
Hella growth in 5 days! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Alright, back from vacation. Watered her with some more cal-mag, and will flip to flower tonight.
Looks good! Nice and healthy good job
Not much, but was just checking on stuff today and looks like it is filling out nicely and looking nice and green. Watered once so far with calmag. Thinking it will be flower time after the holiday here.
Went to my parent yesterday and got to see some of the girls I dropped off for them. They are looking good. Did some topping and trimming.
Not much to add, but when I checked on her today, It looks like she is doing well.
My plan is to let her cover about 50% of the floor (should be soon at this point) and then flip to flower. I have only watered once at this point with cal-mag, according to the jug (5ml-1gal).
If I am off base let me know!
A few days post transplant and I think she was looking good enough to give another topping. I topped 6 of the nodes, which should yield me 12 colas?
This will probably be my last topping, get her a little more bushy, and then flip to flower. If I am off base here please speak up!
Well topped the plant last week, and today replanted to its final container, a 3gal fabric with some mycro. I think she is looking good!
Well I think I got her back!
Holy god is she skunky.. is that normal?
Been a bit...
No, just in the tent, they would have moved to 1 gallon and finally 3 gallon pots when needed, BUT, actually we started over. My parents wanted the 3 plants to plant in their garden, so I started over. However somewhere in transfer/moving/whatever one of the plants got NUKED, it browned all its leaves, and I thought it was a goner. I took that one back home, and thought I would try and nurse it back. Meanwhile I started 2 more seeds.
The 2 ready to be moved to my parents garden.
They were brought over last weekend, and since them they have been getting tempered to go into the garden with daily sun time to get used to it. They are doing well, I think.
As to the dead one...I think I got this girl back! I trimmed off all the dead leaves and have slowly brought it more light. As of today I am happy with where she is.
So thats all I got.
Update for those who care, and I may as well use this as my grow log.
Started with some seeds that I inspected and *think* picked out the females.
Planted 3 seeds in root starter plugs in a small dome on around 5/10/21.
Scared I was seeing nothing, I planted 2 more on 5/13.
on 5/17 they started to break ground.
5/19 I started to feed them some clonex (3ml to 16oz RO water)
Today they were close enough to the dome that they needed to be replanted in solo cups. My adjustable light stand, has not shown up yet, so I figured I would just put them in their forever home a little early. I moved the light to the top of the tent, and only allowing 1 section of light for now. I will keep it on 24/7 for a bit.
Added a sprinkle of mycorr, and used dried FFOF
Their forever home, some water( pure RO) and plants about 2 weeks old.
Worked on the tent interface and controls a little bit as well. Added a photoresistor and calibrated it using the grow light/baffles.
Had some time today in between things at work, sketched up the beta interface. Some place to start.
Now I know you don't have to be very technical and automated to do this, however most of my fun is in the implementation!
The same can be said for another hobby of mine brewing beer, but that ship has sailed and there is no coming back at this point.
Hey thanks! I found this site here because of your youtube, so thanks for everything! Yes just pieces of cardboard. I wanted a manable solution to "dim" the light for some different stages. Using the trellis it should work, I tested temps with the light and cardboard, and it seemed to be more than fine. The TOP of the light though gets really warm, and thats why I positioned my exhaust fan right by it. Open to other options as well though!
Welcome to the forum! What do you have over the light? Is that cardboard?
