Noob: inherrited a tent.. carbon filter question

hello, i am new to this, when i connect up a big carbon filter too the pipe the tent blows up like a balloon and when i undo a zip i can feel alot of air pressure blowing out of the tent.. is this normal? maybe the filter is too big for the tent? i have taken the pipe off and the filter is just running in there now expelling air back into tent and it doesnt blow up like a balloon.. please help please
