First time grower here, I'm trying to maximize my grow space because I'm growing in a 2'x4'x5' grow tent and I'm planning on topping soon. Is it too traumatic to top the plants at a lower node? I'm in week 3 of veg currently (7 nodes) and I'm wondering if I should top at the 6th node or if I can or should go lower.

Yes you can top down to a lower node. I sometimes like to let the plant grow to it's 5th node then top down to the 3rd node. I do like to make sure that some branching is starting to come out of that node site though so I know for sure two branches will grow there.
are they autos? If not then yes you can definitely go lower if you would like but if they are autos I wouldn’t top
