I had a conversation with my brother and I said that I top once around around 4th node and do LST (meaning bending branches down to even the canopy). He did not understand why I would cut the top of the plant and not just do LST. I thought about it said some things but didn't really know haha. I think yield but you can achieve that with LST alone so why cut? His big thing was why cut the plant at all if the big picture there is too even the canopy? Or am I missing something? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Topping promotes the growth of the lower branches. It also prevents you from having to do LST since the lower branches will grow up on their own. Or you can top and do LST. Or you can just do LST. I'd suggest trying them all several times and seeing what you like best.
So here is the short answer…
topping the plant takes away the top node of the plant…so who is the next in line for the lead role of being the top? The two little tops you just created are…both think they are the king of the mountain because hormones and science.
Think of any sort of LST as making it a more fair fight to where all of the upper sites get a chance to try and be the big bud or top…all of them think they are a contender…extra auxen…baddabing baddaboom lots of tops 🌱🪴🤙🏻
And photo period plants by the way.
