Hello, I am using distilled water that has a PH of 8.
When I use the Fox Farm nutes (per schedule), the PH drops to around 2.5 and I have to use quite a bit of PH up to get it back to 6.5. Is this normal? Sorry first time grower.
pH controller is toxic to microbial life so being able to limit the amount needed is beneficial. I used FF for a long time, never with distilled water so I can't say to much to why the pH is so low with that. I used tap water that started about 7.2 and after adding FF nutrients it would sometimes drop as low as 5.0-5.5. I'd definitely start with checking the amount your mixing and maybe check the ppm of it, if it's real high it shouldn't hurt to lower the nutrient amount to help the pH.
I use the Fox Farm trio (Grow Big, Big Bloom, and Tiger Bloom) as well as their cal-mag. My base water is around 7.5 and after adding all the nutes (I only use like 30% of what they recommend) my pH is usually between 5.8 and 6.4. A pH of 2.5 sounds way to low for what i've seen personally. Maybe try to reduce the amount you are feeding, but if your plants are happy i wouldn't change much. Definitely flush a few times during the grow, the pH adjuster is salty as well as the nutes.
Hello, brand new fox farm nutes, grow big, big bloom, tiger bloow, boomerang, microbe brew kelp me kelp you and open sesame, all off 1st week of flower from fox farms schedule. The PH in the distilled I but is very consistent at 8PH and after adding all nutes, still 2.5 consistent. I add ph up to get back to 6.5. Brand new PH pen also, the yellow one with 2 buttons that came in the spider farmer kit. I have read some blogs where they were also getting 2.5 after using tiger bloom which is not organic.
Thank you all so much!

Yep! Sounds like it's the Tiger Bloom. I was just looking at their site and it says this about it.
It is formulated with a low pH to maintain stability in storage and keep micronutrients available.
Raise the pH of your nutrient solution to the desired level of between 5.8 and 6.3 to optimize nutrient availability. Add a pH up adjuster as needed.
Sounds like you are doing the right thing. I would be interested to hear if anyone else here is using Tiger Bloom.

Hi, that does not sound right. A PH of 2.5 is in the Vinegar/Lemon Juice range and approaching battery acid.
I do not use Fox Farm nutes but from what I understand it should auto-balance the PH for you. Also, distilled water should have a PH of 7.
I'm thinking you need a new PH pen. What kind of Fox Farm nutes are you using? How much? Have your nutes expired maybe?
Here's a blurb from the Fox Farm sites FAQ regarding PH:
