Prior to adding ingredients to compost tea I Ph'd water to 5.8. After brewing tea for 24 hours ph rose to 7.0. I prefer water around 6.0. Do I ph down prior to feeding or feed them with the 7.0 compost tea? Thank
Good question. This was actually talked about on one of my Garden Talk podcast episodes. Tim McCormick says no matter what the pH is after brewing, he will not adjust it. I personally don't adjust the pH after brewing either. Here's the episode if you're interested:
So, your PH changed due to the type of organisms you are breeding.
If you know what you are trying to achieve then you know that fungal dom environments are acidic. Bacterially dominant will be alkaline.
This tells you that bacteria are the major product in your tea.
If you continue to brew you will have a bacterial problem.
When you cause giant population swings in your environment, you end up with boom/bust cycles. You may see a huge improvement, but then things will fall flat and you won't know why.
Teas are a touchy thing if you don't have a REALLY good knowledge of foods/fuels and how to tell what your actually breeding.
You can use PH up/down but you are introducing chems.
Any chems in strenght are going to kill your life/tea.
