Question about watering/ soil

My friend has been telling me he thinks it’s more efficient that the plant gets the water from the ”saucer” the pot is sitting on!? Is this true or should we keep watering the soil from the top

an another quick question! the soil looked to have abit or green stuff through it kinda like moss… is this okay? Or should he ease up on the watering ??? thanks guys :)

You can water from the bottom and SIP (sub irrigated planters) are quite popular. Just depends on your set up. If you, for example, are top dressing and need feeder roots at the surface you will need to develop those first. Generally algae is no bueno but would need pictures and more details to diagnose. @MrDamixos If you are feeding from the bottom with your watering you will be fine. Growing with organic dry amendments is when you can get into problems because you will need feeder roots to break down the top fed amendments.
